Photography 101 – Edge

Today, show us an edge — a straight line, a narrow ridge, a precipice.

There’s lots of sinkholes around the property here, the one I wanted I couldn’t get to today so I chose a smaller one.  I may post the other one later this week.

Photography 101 – Treasure

Show us something (or someone) you cherish, and get up close.

Not really what I had planned when I read the description of this challenge.  While walking around the back fields today I saw these – while they are not a treasure to me they could definitely be to the birds during the cold.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all from Tennessee, where it’s a “balmy” 35 degrees and cloudy.  Sun tried to peak out a few times but finally gave up.  I hope everyone, everywhere has been able to enjoy family and friends.

Photography 101: A Pop of Color and #NaBloPoMo

Colors can stir emotions within us, tell stories, and transform our images. Today, use one color to add life or drama to your shot.

This shot is of the ticket booth at the old drive in on Hwy 50 in Lewisburg, TN.  It’s closed for winter and looks so desolate and abandoned.  Took a shot of the sign at the entrance also but the color on this one really stands out.

IMG_20141117_110142_hdr The following photos are of the sign and the concession stand area.  They all have the pops of red.

Photography 101 – Mystery and #NaBloPoMo

Show us something uncertain, and manipulate light around you to enhance the mood of your image.

Used some crazy setting in my photo editing after downloading pix taken with my Fire Phone.  The 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Spring Hill is being re-acted this month at the battlefield at Rippavilla just outside of Spring Hill, TN.   These flags line the driveway to Rippavilla.  Battlefield definitely looks different with the GM Plant across the highway now.

Photography 101- Warmth and #NaBloPoMo

Today, capture an image of warmth, ideally using the sun as your source.

Not a lot of sun around the last couple of days until late in the day and definitely not any warmth from it.  This is one from the last good warm day we had when Con could get out and play and have fun in the sun.

Photography 101 – Weekend One: Experiment with Composition and #NaBloPoMo

Weekend challenge – new gallery.  On my trip down the road today, took my grandson by the square where they have remounted two of the cannons.  This is the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Franklin.  Made a side run out to the Confederate Cemetery and Carnton Mansion.    Last stop before heading back was Winstead Hill.  Been a lot of changes there in the last 20 years.  My youngest son and I climbed all over that hill when he was in the Cub Scouts working on his badges.

Made a stop by The Factory – previously Jamison Bedding Plant and before that Dortch Stove Works.  If you look closely you can still make out the words – Dortch Stove Works.
