Photography 101 – Treasure

Show us something (or someone) you cherish, and get up close.

Not really what I had planned when I read the description of this challenge.  While walking around the back fields today I saw these – while they are not a treasure to me they could definitely be to the birds during the cold.

Photography 101 – Day 2 Challenge – Street and #NaBloPoMo

Yes, I am behind.  Yesterday’s challenge was a street.  I went to Richmond, VA three years ago and this is one section of the interstate that cracked me up with the sign.  If anyone plays any of the games on Facebook you can relate to the “Farmville” sign.   Love Virginia and look forward to going back.  This one of my favorite pictures,  and that’s the reason I am using it on this challenge.

Photography 101 – Day 1 Challenge – What does home look like? & NaBloPoMo #3

Photography 101 – Day 1 Challenge – What does home look like to me?

When I think of home, I think of a safe place, a place to grow and learn and be loved.  My mother always had roses and many other flowers, there was seldom a month that was half way warm that something wasn’t blooming.  When I see roses I think about her.  My roses are still putting out new growth and blooming even though we’ve had several nights in the lower 30’s and upper 20’s this past week.

Holidays, family and food….what’s your favorite?

Well, it’s almost that time again. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years – the holidays; a time for many things including family gatherings and food. Many of us have favorites that we cook every year and many of us like to try something new. I thought that this would be a good time to share favorite foods (recipes, pictures, etc.). Maybe there’s something you want to try that you haven’t attempted before, post that and see how many offers of help and suggestions we get.

One of my favorites for the fall is banana nut bread and apple crisp pies and of course chili.chili spiced cider

I remember making banana nut bread with my Mom many years before she passed. When I think about that and about family dinners, it makes me sad since both my parents are gone and both my mother and father-in-law as well. Granny (my mother-in-law) used to make jam cakes every year, that’s a lengthy process for made from scratch for sure.

Fruit salad, cranberry salad, candied sweet potatoes, ham, turkey, dressing, homemade biscuits with country ham, redeye gravy, white beans, pinto beans, green beans, turnip greens, corn bread, mashed potatoes, baked apples, fudge pie, chocolate cake, coconut cake, peppermint cake, jam cake, and on and on.

Jump right in here, what’s some of your favorites in the food department for the holidays. Share a recipe or two and some pictures.

What about those homemade food gifts – hot chocolate, spiced cider, fudge, old fashioned hard candy.hard candy 1 hard candy 2

I could keep going but now it’s up to you.

Wildflowers and weeds – what do we see?

While out mowing today I stopped to look at the wildflowers blooming.  Yes, they are wild,  but they are beautiful.  I love my roses and other flowers but there’s just something about these growing wild, yeah they’re just weeds but look at the beautiful flowers they have.
